Once frowned upon as drab and Victorian, grey dare I say it, is the new black – modern, versatile and sleek, grey lends itself to an array of flower and adornment possibilities – think pinks, mirrors, pearls and chalkboards and with so many shades in the spectrum, silver to the charcoal, there’s an option for everyone. Grey Lace and pink peonies are on my wish list…I’ll be wishing on a star or should I say cloud!

First and foremost, it was pretty hard to miss the fabulous By Appointment Only Design http://www.byappointmentonlydesign.com/, London’s top wedding and concierge service. Their breathtaking stand was bursting with blooms and definitely a top tip for those brides to be, who want inspiration and help planning their big day. I also met with the charming Paul Antonio who runs Paul Antonio Scribe http://www.paulantonioscribe.com/, beautiful handwritten invitations, menus, illustrations and place cards. A truly talented gentlemen who wrote my name so effortlessly yet so glamourously on a piece of card, I intend to keep it forever! Then there was the fabulous Amanda Baird who runs The Utterly Sexy Cafe http://www.utterlysexycafe.co.uk/. If you love vintage you’ll love her and everything about her company. The original, full service catering service that provides beautifully prepared food on beautiful vintage china and all the other little touches that make her unique: edible art, delicate flowers, butterflies and birds, twinkly lights, tea lights and beautiful floral ice bowls.

We were absolutely gob-smacked when, out of 30 shortlisted companies, Maids to Measure was announced Best Newcomer and presented with the national award…we haven’t been able to wipe the smile off our faces all week. The award is now safely ensconced and admired on our Maids to Measure mantlepiece!!

 

As a new company, its moments like these that make it all worth while, the last year has been a whirlwind and the support from everyone in the industry has been overwhelming. Massive thanks to all our maids and brides who voted for us and of course to the judges, all of whom are experts in their fields and we can only aspire to.

Maids to Measure has been lucky enough to attend and donate three dresses to three wonderful charity auctions recently.


First stop was The Boodles Boxing ball, in aid of Starlight Children’s Foundation http://www.starlight.org.uk/, which was held at London’s swanky Park Plaza Hotel. We were treated to cocktails from Maggies http://www.maggies-club.com/ an amazing new, fun club on the Fulham road and glittering guests included Pippa Middleton, Chelsey Davey, sisters Beatrice and Eugenie and siblings Holly and Sam Branson.


In November, building up to the crazy Christmas season, was the BNRT ball, in aid of the British Neurolgical Research Trust, where a special someone (we cant disclose) very generously donated to ensure they won one of our bespoke dresses, very exciting! Thank you to Victoria Mann http://www.victoriamannmillinery.com/ who did such a fantastic job in organising it for us!


Last but not least, The Sisterhood ball http://www.sisterhoodchallenge.com/  held in the amazing setting of the Science Museum, in South Kensington, where the theme was black tie with a hint of spaceage! Egerton Pink gin  sponsored the ball, and ensured we were supplied with pink cocktails all evening (apologise now to Dashing Magazine http://www.dashingmag.com/ for our photo shoot the next day where we were looking a little worse for wear!!)


Our next stop is The Winter Grand Prix Party being held at the Bluebird, Chelsea, this Friday. We will again, with pleasure, be donating our bespoke dress making service to the fantastic cause, which is the Starlight charity, a charity we are getting to know very well and are totally in awe of.

 

Whilst we’re always excited to attend these parties as an excuse to make ourselves and our friends new dresses, we are also proud to be supporting these charities in this small way.

Familiar faces on the pink carpet were former pop star Liz McClarnon, actress Adele Silva, Danielle Lineker and Bobby Sabel.
